About Friendship Circle
What we do
The Friendship Circle reaches out and extends a helping hand to families who have children with special needs and involves them in a full range of social experiences. The Circle’s’ unique formula introduces teenage volunteers to the children and through shared experiences both are enriched. We train teenage volunteers to become friends and mentors to a child with special needs thereby giving them the opportunity to have what every child needs – friends, role models, and love.
The Friendship Circle exists to bring happiness and companionship to children and young adults with special needs by celebrating their individuality, as well as bringing energy, support, and peace of mind to their families. To do this, we focus on developing the values of altruism, compassion, and acceptance in our teen volunteers as we heighten community awareness and sensitivity and encourage a sense of responsibility and involvement.

“As I reflect on my four years participating in the friendship circle memories of excitement, fun, and caring are the images I see. I have been visiting my buddies at woods services, so my friendship circle experience has been a little different than the average teen volunteer.”
